Bobo Stenson Trio
Bo Gustav Stenson, 4 August 1944, Västerås, Sweden. Stenson began playing piano as a very small child and studied classical music from the age of five. He took an interest in jazz from an early age but did not play professionally until the mid-60s. Around this period, he spent some time in other countries, playing in France and Germany with artists such as Benny Bailey, Dexter Gordon and Gunter Hampel. He also recorded with the singer Inge Brandenburg in Berlin in 1965, and with a band led by tenor saxophonist Börge Fredriksson. In 1968, he toured Africa with Stan Getz and the same year began a spell with Red Mitchell that lasted until 1971 when he joined Palle Danielsson and Lennart Åberg to form Rena Rama, a group that incorporated into its repertoire ethnic music from Bulgaria and India.
