Biography

Bobby Taylor (Robert Taylor; lead vocals), Tommy Chong (b. Thomas B. Kin Chong, 24 May 1938, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; guitar/vocals), Eddie Patterson (guitar), Wes Henderson (bass), Robbie King (keyboards) and Ted Lewis (drums) joined forces in Vancouver, Canada in the mid-60s. Originally known as Little Daddy And The Bachelors, they were signed to Motown Records in 1967 and supported Gladys Knight And The Pips on a US tour. The following year, they issued their debut single, ‘Does Your Mama Know About Me’, an emotive ballad with a lyric that capitalized on the band’s inter-racial make-up. The single reached the US Top 30, and was succeeded by two smaller hits, ‘I Am Your Man’ and ‘Malinda’.

After issuing an eponymous debut album, the Vancouvers split. Tommy Chong went on to form the comedy double-act Cheech And Chong, who achieved great popularity in the early 70s with their drug-related humour. Taylor...
