Biography
Robert Glen Barnett, 15 February 1936, Cushing, Oklahoma, USA. One of 13 children, Barnett graduated from high school in 1953 and, after relocating to Texas, found employment with the El Paso Gas Company. Always harbouring the desire to become a country singer, he finally managed to record a couple of singles on Razorback, an Oklahoma label. In 1960, perhaps surprisingly, considering the distribution problems of a minor label, his version of This Old Heart became a Top 25 hit. He worked the club circuits and after brief spells with Republic and Reprise Records, he was recording for Sims, when he gained Top 50 chart success with Worst Of Luck in 1964. Further minor hits followed on K-Ark, in 1967, before George Richey (a noted songwriter and record producer and later husband of Tammy Wynette, who was then A&R man at Columbia Records), was impressed enough to give him a contract.
