Biography
8 March 1954, New York City, New York, USA. Born and raised in the Hudson River Delta, blues musician, author and musicologist Bob Brozman began playing the piano at the age of four, gravitating to guitar by the age of six. Eventually he adopted the National steel guitar in 1968, and from then on developed a keen interest in and long-standing commitment to the blues. At college he undertook a degree in musicology, his thesis a comparative study of Tommy Johnson and Charley Patton that argued that they must have met at some point. Outside of the blues, he also stumbled across Hawaiian National guitar player Solomon Hoopii of the Hoopii Brothers, and began acquiring a huge collection of pre-war Hawaiian 78 rpm records.
