Founded as Lucifer’s Heritage in Krefeld, Germany in 1985, Blind Guardian incorporate elements of speed and thrash metal, bombastic progressive rock and sword and sorcery lyrical themes into their own brand of ‘fantasy metal’.

Comprising Hansi Kürsch (10 August 1966, Lank-Latum, Meersbusch, Germany; bass/vocals), Thomen Stauch (b. 11 March 1970, Krefeld, Germany; drums), André Olbrich (b. 3 May 1967, Düsseldorf, Germany; guitar) and Marcus Siepen (b. 8 September 1968, Krefeld, Germany; guitar), the band issued a series of demos before being signed by No Remorse Records. The first release of this new partnership, 1988’s Battalions Of Fear, set the tone for the later works with several of the tracks being inspired by literary works, including J.R.R.
