This UK electro pop duo featured Neil Arthur (15 June 1958, Lancashire, England; vocals/guitar) and Steven Luscombe (b. 29 October 1954; keyboards). After debuting with an EP, Irene And Mavis, they were invited by disc jockey/entrepreneur Stevo to appear on his influential 1981 Some Bizzare compilation. This led to a contract with London Records and a synthesizer-based album, Happy Families, which spawned two Top 10 singles, ‘Living On The Ceiling’ and ‘Blind Vision’. Ambitiously eclectic at times, Blancmange employed orchestration and raga influences on their second album, Mange Tout, and enjoyed an unlikely hit with a cover version of Abba’s ‘The Day Before You Came’. By 1985, the Blancmange experiment had effectively run its course and after a final album, Believe You Me, Luscombe and Arthur went their separate ways.
