Biography

William Gaither, 28 March 1936, Alexandria, Indiana, USA. One of the heavyweights behind the re-emergence of US gospel as a viable commercial force in contemporary music, Gaither’s list of credits include spells as a presenter, disc jockey and record/video compiler. In the latter respect he was responsible for the ‘Gaither Gospel Series’ of audio and video archive releases of the 90s, featuring several nearly-forgotten southern gospel greats such as the Blackwoods and the Speer Family. He has also recorded prolifically with his wife Gloria as the Gaither Vocal Band and with the Bill Gaither Trio, which included his brother Danny Gaither (b. 20 November 1938, Alexandria, Indiana, USA, d. 6 April 2001, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA) and sister Mary Ann.
