William Ray Engvall Jnr., 27 July 1957, Galveston, Texas, USA. Engvalls early showbusiness career was as a DJ in Dallas nightclubs, which was followed by a successful switch to stand-up comedy. In the early 90s he worked in Los Angeles, appearing on television and winning 1992s American Comedy award as Best Male Standup. Unusually among comics of his generation, Engvall brought into his comedy routines elements of rural humour and country music, allying them to a continuing strain of blue-collar material. His first two albums went gold and he continued to develop as a comic, touring extensively, sometimes in the company of fellow stand-up Jeff Foxworthy with whom he made the Blue Collar Comedy tour, along with Larry The Cable Guy and Ron White.
