Biography
Sarah Streeter, 31 January 1953, Coldwater, Mississippi, USA. Big Time Sarahs name seems to be more of a wish than an observation. A blues belter in the style of Big Maybelle and Big Mama Thornton, the power of her voice, trained in church choirs, sometimes disguises her lack of technique and control. She was seven years old when her family arrived in Chicago and within a few years Sarah had taken to singing in blues clubs, helped by the Myers brothers and Magic Slim. A decade later, she had established herself in clubs such as Kingston Mines, Biddy Mulligans and B.L.U.E.S., and had toured with Sunnyland Slim and Erwin Helfer. Her first recordings were made while on tour in Greece, backed by a band that combined Chicago musicians with locals. John Hammond plays harmonica on the inevitable Got My Mojo Working.
