1962, New York City, New York, USA. Taking up the guitar as a child Monder became highly proficient and later studied music at the University of Miami and at Queens College. Since 1984, he has been based in New York City where he has worked in many contexts, mainly jazz, and with diverse musicians. During this period, which extended through the 90s and into the mid-00s, it was not all gravy and Monder played his share of weddings, bar mitzvahs and lounge gigs. Somewhat higher profile were engagements with the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, Tim Berne, David Binney, Chris Cheek, Jon Gordon, Drew Gress, Guillermo Kleins Los Guachos, Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman, Donny McCaslin, Jack McDuff (his first big-name employer with whom he toured extensively), Bill McHenry, Paul Motian, the New York Guitar Trio, Charles Pillow, Tim Reis, Joshiah Roseman, Maria Schneider, Joshua Douglas Smith, Toots Thielemans and Kenny Wheelers Large Ensemble.
