Biography
This Dublin, Eire-based indie rock quartet take their name from the first aeroplane to break the sound barrier, which was piloted by Chuck Yeager and memorably documented in Tom Wolfes book The Right Stuff. Bell X1 was formed from the ashes of the unsuccessful indie band Juniper who ground to a halt in 1999 following an abortive spell on a major label. Paul Noonan (vocals, guitar, drums), Dominic Phillips (bass), David Geraghty (guitar, keyboards) and Brian Crosby (guitar, keyboards) continued without former bandmate Damien Rice, adopting their new moniker and recording an album with bass player Nick Seymour (ex-Crowded House). Neither Am I, which was released in 2000, offered an impressively melodic spin on the standard indie rock format and helped establish Bell X1 in their homeland.
