Biography
Originally know as Meridian, Baton Rouge was formed in New Orleans, USA, in 1986 by Kelly Keeling (lead vocals/guitar) and Lance Bulen (lead guitar/vocals), the line-up being completed by Corky McClellan (drums/vocals), Scott Bender (bass/vocals) and David Cremin (keyboards, guitars, vocals). Within a year the band moved away from the covers-orientated Louisiana club circuit to Los Angeles, where two years of songwriting and rehearsal paid off, with a major record contract after only six live shows. Shake Your Soul, produced by Jack Ponti, who also wrote with the band, was an album of blues-influenced melodic hard rock, with powerful harmonies, reminiscent of Def Leppard, augmenting Keelings striking vocals. Extensive US touring, including dates supporting Alannah Myles, coupled with heavy radio airplay for their debut single, Walks Like A Woman, allowed the quintet to build up a healthy live following, to the extent that they played a headline...
