This US electronica project is the creation of DJ Lorin Ashton (North California, USA). In the early 90s Ashton had become obsessed with the dance music scene in the UK, and his frustration with the fact it was not very well followed in America eventually led him to create Bassnectar. It was formed as a loose collective in the early new millennium in order to stage parties around America (Ashton performs about 125 DJ gigs per year), and to release some of his own bass-heavy workouts. Drawing on influences from hip-hop, dub, ragga and breakbeat, with a healthy slice of obscure electronica, enabled Ashton to create a melting pot of sounds. The single releases, ‘Float’ (2002) and ‘Creation Lullaby’ (2004), proved a musical ability, which attracted the attention of breakbeat DJs Freq Nasty and Krafty Kuts, and spawned remix projects aplenty.
