Biography
Martin Kennedy, 17 June 1962, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Singer-songwriter Kennedy reaped plenty of critical acclaim but little commercial reward in the early 90s as the lead singer with Irish rock band Energy Orchard. They petered out following the release of 1995s Painkiller, leaving Kennedy free to pursue a solo career. He was approached by Steve Earle to record his debut album in America, with Earle and a number of leading Nashville session players completing the backing band, and Nanci Griffith chipping in on vocals. The albums release was delayed until 1998, however, with Earle eventually offering to issue it on his own label. Domestic Blues offered a sparkling fusion of Celtic rock and traditional American roots music, creating an atmospheric backdrop for lyrics rooted in the Belfast of Kennedys youth.
