Biography
Formed in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1985, this idiosyncratic band revolves around Duglas Stewart (ex-Faith Healers and Pretty Flowers). Stewart chose the name BMX Bandits because he assumed the band would last for one gig, but it quickly became one of the prime components of the anorak or C86 movement. However, despite an early, naïve image - Stewart sometimes passed sweets out to his audience - the singer has proved himself a wry lyricist, akin to idol Jonathan Richman. The bands debut single, Sad/E102, was issued on 53rd & 3rd in 1986. Sean Dickson (keyboards), Jim McCulloch (guitar), Billy Wood (vocals) and Willie McArdle (drums) joined Stewart for this release, although within months, the first of a host of line-up changes was underway.
