Biography

The USA rock band Babyface comprised Edgar Riley (vocals), Bobby Barth (guitar), Mike Turpin (bass) and Bob Miles (drums); in 1979 they recruited Mike Osborne (22 December 1979, d. 21 July 1984) as second guitarist and Teddy Mueller as the replacement for Miles on drums, and realising Babyface was an inappropriate moniker, they wisely changed their name to Axe. Purveying highly sophisticated pomp-rock, they established a loyal following in the USA and released three superbly crafted albums. However, in 1984 vocalist Osborne was killed in a car crash. The band dissolved itself, with Barth joining Blackfoot for a short period in 1985, before re-forming Axe in 1989 with ex-UFO drummer Andy Parker.
