Formed in Austin, Texas, USA, in 1980 by Conrad Deisler (guitar), Hank Card (banjo) and Tom Pittman (pedal steel guitar), the trio built a repertoire that reflected their individual musical interests. Deisler and Card had played together in contemporary folk bands while students at Princeton University in the mid-70s. They had a liking for country music and had woven some of this into the repertoire of the folk bands in which they played. Pittman was a bluegrass player from Georgia who also liked folk as well as country music. To their core trio, they have added others, including Richard Bowden and Eamon McGloughlin (multi-instrumental), Boo Resnick (bass) and Paul Pearcy (drums).
