Biography
1937, Vicksburg, Mississippi, USA. White began singing gospel at the age of 11 and, after moving to Chicago in 1956, he sang with the Full Gospel Wonders. He began singing blues in the early 60s and later recorded singles for small labels such as Gamma, World-Wide, PM and Sky Hero (both owned by Little Mack Simmons), and Altee (Leanin Tree was a local hit for the latter company). For some time he ran a Chicago club called Bootsys Lounge and in 1985 he made his debut album for the Ronn label. In 1987 he signed with Ichiban Records and has had regular album and single releases since that time, all of a consistently high standard and spotlighting Whites soul-drenched blues singing, which, transferred to the stage, reveals White to be a dynamic performer although on his 1997 release Home Tonight the Muscle Shoals rhythm section outshines the singer. They were also present on Can We Get Together, but the artist came out on top.
