Biography
This folk-based lo-fi indie band was formed in Scotland in 1994 by Alasdair Roberts (Swabia, Germany; vocals/guitar) and Dave E. While (bass/violin). The duo recorded a demo cassette that was passed on to Will Oldham, resulting in the release of Ice Age/Pissed With You on the US lo-fi singer-songwriters Palace label. Louise D. (cello) and Eva Peck (drums) completed the line-up on Appendix Outs debut, The Rye Bears A Poison, that was released in 1997 by the US label Drag City Records. The band fashioned a startlingly modern folk music that drew on both Scottish traditional music and the downbeat acoustic style of Oldhams Palace Music recording project, with Roberts songwriting announcing a powerful new force on the UK folk scene.
