Biography

1 November 1971, Mexico City, Mexico. Taking an interest in playing drums from the age of five, Sanchéz studied privately for some years before starting to perform with rock, jazz and Latin bands in Mexico City. In the late 80s, he studied at the city’s National Conservatory of Music from where he went to the USA to study at Berklee College Of Music. There, he encountered musicians such as Gary Burton, Mick Goodrick and Danilo Pérez. After leaving Berklee, he continued his studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He then played in Dizzy Gillespie’s United Nations Orchestra for an extensive period. During these and subsequent years, Sanchéz played with many contemporary and Latin jazz artists, including Claudia Acuña, Michael Brecker, Avishai Cohen, Chick Corea, Charlie Haden, Paquito D’Rivera, Victor Mendoza, Pat Metheny, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Chris Potter, Marcus Roberts, David Sanchez, and Luciana...
