30 September 1968, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Hart began playing alto saxophone while still a very small child, studying at Baltimore School for the Arts and later at the Berklee College Of Music. His bandstand experience came through gigs with James Williams, sitting-in with Art Blakey, and touring Europe with Roy Hargrove in 1987. He formed his own group in 1991, making his own-name recording debut that same year. He continued with his studies, this time with Jimmy Heath at Queens College, New York, and with Donald Byrd. Later prestigious engagements included one in 1997 with Phil Woods and Vincent Herring in Alto Madness, with which group he also recorded.
Although sometimes displaying a nod of appreciation towards other alto saxophonists, especially Cannonball Adderley and Gary Bartz, Hart is a strikingly original and immensely gifted performer. A masterly technician, he has the ability to produce in sound the endlessly inventive products...
