Biography

Anthony Moore. UK-born vocalist, songwriter, keyboard player More was a founder member of the early 70s, German-based, progressive act Slapp Happy. Pieces From The Clouded Ballroom predated their founding, whereas Secrets Of The Blue Bag and Reed, Whistle And Sticks were recorded and released in tandem with Slapp Happy’s debut, Sort Of. He left the group in 1975 when the remaining members opted to amalgamate with Henry Cow. The haunting Out ensued, after which More slipped from public view. He resumed recording in 1979 with Flying Doesn’t Help, a breathtaking collection of gorgeous pop, crammed with hook-laden melodies and pithy, razor sharp lyrics. The set drew favourable comparison with the best of Kevin Ayers and John Cale. By contrast World Service exposed More’s experimental side, with a largely down-beat atmosphere. Atonal guitar and bitter lyricism ensures that the album is a disquieting - but no less rewarding - experience. The Only Choice...
