1977, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. After qualifying as a schoolteacher, Lee began singing professionally. Almost at once, his thoughtful take on smooth contemporary mildly jazzy pop struck a chord with the twenty-something audience. Playing acoustic guitar and singing in a relaxed and unpretentious manner, he reached a wide audience when he toured North America and Europe in 2004 as opening act for Norah Jones. His appearance at festivals in Nice, Montreux, The Hague and San Sebastian, as well as concerts in Amsterdam, Glasgow and Brighton swelled his European following. Lee, who has also opened for Bob Dylan, sometimes plays electric guitar. Writing many of the songs in his repertoire, Lee displayed an ability to speak to the hearts of that same audience with his spare yet meaningful lyrics.
