1953, New Jersey, USA. A gifted clarinettist, Vaché was raised in a very musical family; his father played bass and his brother is Warren Vaché Jnr. For many years Allan Vaché played in Jim Cullums Jazz Band in San Antonio, Texas, and was thus less well known on the international circuit than might otherwise have been the case. In the late 80s and throughout the 90s he appeared regularly in Europe, playing solo tours and appearing at clubs and festivals. He also began making records both under his own name and in partnership with pianist Johnny Varro and fellow clarinettist Antti Sarpilå. Fluid and emotional, his playing is most rewarding when faced with challenging music, such as his features on Cullums Porgy And Bess. His repertoire is wide, although much of his latter-day work centres upon recreations of swing era music and continues a fine tradition of skilled musicianship in the Benny Goodman mould.
