Alberto Barros Caraballo, 30 November 1957, Barranquilla, Colombia. Band leader, trombonist, bass player, percussionist, singer, arranger, composer, producer Barros is currently the most in-demand arranger and session musician on the Colombian salsa recording scene. Two of the bands he directs, Los Titanes and Grupo Star, were responsible for some of the finest albums to come out of Colombia in the late 80s. Alberto is the son of composer José Barros, who wrote the immortal cumbia ‘La Piragua’. He started his professional career as trombonist and arranger with the band of Adolfo Echeverría in 1975. This was followed by stints with various bands in Barranquilla and Bogotá, including those of Fruko and current superstar Joe Arroyo. He continued to work with the latter for nearly a decade.
