
Biography
Al Laurence Dimeola, 22 July 1954, Jersey City, New Jersey, USA. After learning the drums at a very early age, Di Meola was inspired by the Beatles to take up the guitar, at the age of nine. Private lessons continued until, at the age of 15, he was performing in a C&W context. A growing interest in jazz led Di Meola to enter Berklee College Of Music in 1971, but he soon left to join Barry Miles' fusion group, returning in 1974 to study arranging. He was invited by Chick Corea to join his popular and influential Return To Forever. During this time Di Meola made a name for himself with his furious and sometimes spellbinding playing. It was 1976 before Di Meola began working as a leader and recording for Columbia Records, mostly in a jazz rock style.
