Biography
This vocal trio comprising brothers Kevon and Melvin Edmonds (both Indianapolis, Indiana, USA) alongside long-time friend Keith Mitchell, became one of the most successful urban R&B/soul acts in the USA of the early 90s. The brothers met Mitchell at Indiana University where he and Kevon were pursuing business studies degrees, and were also members of the Indiana University Soul Review. Melvin joined them after touring with the group Deele and working in the studio with Shalamar. After 7s self-titled debut album was released in 1989 and documented what was already a potent live repertoire, based on 50s doo-wop harmonies combined with 90s hip-hop rhythms. It produced two US Top 10 singles, Ready Or Not and Cant Stop, and accrued a host of awards (including a Grammy nomination for Best Soul Group).
