17 November 1977, Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. At the age of 11 Lines was taught guitar by an open-minded tutor who encouraged him to play all kinds of music, including country. He also began singing and soon added songwriting to his list of accomplishments. With a brother and a school friend he formed a band and also appeared on a local radio station, singing his own songs. This led to live appearances in neighbourhood bars. Not long afterwards, now a young adult, he moved first to Edmonton where he studied at the university. A demo tape he had made was sent to an Arista Records executive, which led to a spell in Los Angeles, California. Lines began polishing his writing skills and developing new aspects of the craft before, in 1999, heading for Nashville, Tennessee.
