A Fine Frenzy
Alison Sudol, 1985, Seattle, Washington, USA. This US singer-songwriter was raised in Los Angeles, California, from the age of five, having relocated from Seattle following the divorce of her parents. A childhood spent reading fantasy authors Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis was to inform her later songwriting career, as was her love of classic female vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin. After graduating high school at 16, Sudol played in a band for a short time before moving onto solo work. The self-taught pianist created the recording alter ego A Fine Frenzy (taken from A Midsummer Nights Dream) and played low-key gigs around Los Angeles, where musicians Stephen LeBlanc and Daxx Nielsen frequently joined her on stage. After releasing a three-song demo via iTunes she signed a recording contract with Virgin Records in 2006 and worked with UK producer Lukas Burton on her debut album.
