Biography
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, this Canadian heavy metal band was formed in 2000 by vocalists Jamie Hooper and Cam Pipes (ex-Allfather). With Pipes handling clean vocals and Hooper the shrieked vocals, the duo recruited additional members Sunny Dhak (guitar), Bobby Froese (guitar), Geoff Trawick (drums) and Rich Trawick (bass) and quickly built up a cult following owing to constant touring. A self-titled EP and the 2002 album Battlecry Under A Wintersun demonstrated their affinity with both classic NWOBHM and thrash, with lyrics revelling in the traditional heavy metal fantasy pursuits. Matt Wood (drums) and Brian Redman (bass) replaced the Trawick brothers for the 2004 follow-up, Advance And Vanquish. Released on the leading metal outlet Roadrunner Records, the album added cleaner production and a more cohesive sound to the traditional metal blueprint.
