Biography

Formed in November 1978 as ‘a desperate last-ditch attempt at doing something with my life’ by Stuart Moxham (guitar, organ), this seminal, yet short-lived, trio from Cardiff, Wales, comprised the latter as the band’s main songwriter, his brother Philip Moxham (bass) and Alison Statton (March 1958, Cardiff, Wales; vocals). Together they made their debut on Is The War Over?, a compilation of Cardiff acts, released in 1979. Their contribution reached the ears of Geoff Travis at Rough Trade Records who promptly invited them to record an album. Playing within minimalist musical landscapes the band utilized the superb, lyrical bass playing of Philip Moxham. The combination of Stuart’s twangy/scratchy guitar and reedy organ with Statton’s clear diction was evident on tracks such as ‘Searching For Mr. Right’, ‘Credit In The Straight World’ and ‘Wurlitzer Jukebox’ from Colossal Youth.
