27 October 1943, Hampton, Virginia, USA, d. 9 April 2002, Uniondale, New York, USA. Publisher Irvine Weldon rose to prominence in the 90s when his extensive catalogue became widely sampled by prominent rap and hip-hop artists. A Tribe Called Quest, Boogie Down Productions, Leaders Of The New School, Ice Cube, 3rd Bass, Too $hort and Snoop Doggy Dogg are among those who have featured samples of Irvines Nodlew Music catalogue in their work. Irvine was inspired into following a musical career by the rock, soul and jazz sounds that surrounded him in his youth. In the 50s, he sang as leader of several big bands, and also worked as Nina Simones musical director. He also wrote musicals, the most famous of which was Young, Gifted And Broke, which won an Audelco Award for Achievement in Black Theater in 1977.
