Biography
16 April 1937, Coventry, England. A popular ballad singer who has been an enduring favourite in the UK since the 60s, Hill trained as baker and worked as a soft drinks salesman and in a colliery, while singing at pubs and clubs in his spare time. He served in the Royal Signals during his period of National Service, and sang with the regimental band in Europe and the Far East. After demobilization he toured in Leslie Stuarts 1899 musical comedy Floradora, later joining trumpeter Teddy Fosters band as vocalist. After forming the Raindrops vocal group with Len Beadle, Jackie Lee and Johnny Worth in 1958, Hill turned solo in 1962 and released The Rivers Run Dry. He soon found himself in demand on top television and radio shows, and his big breakthrough arrived when he became the resident singer on ITVs Stars And Garters and radios Parade Of the Pops.
