Biography

Upalappu Srinivas, 28 February 1969, Palakol, Andhra Pradesh, India. Srinivas first picked up the electric mandolin at six years of age and, with the encouragement of his father (a local musician), started to explore the possibilities of using the instrument to interpret classical Indian music. He made his public debut in his home-town at the age of nine. Four years later he gave a performance at the Indian Fine Arts Society in Madras that received widespread critical acclaim from the usually stern and conservative critics of Indian classical music, ensuring his fame across the Indian subcontinent. Subsequently, Srinivas has combined teaching (he has more than 30 disciples) with concert recitals around the world and extensive recording sessions released by a variety of Asian record labels, including EMI (India), Oriental and Super Cassette Industries.
