Biography

9 September 1951, Lodi, Wisconsin, USA. Wopat began singing and dancing in school musicals when he was 12 years old. After studying music at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, he began his acting career in productions of West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar and South Pacific. He also sang and played trombone and guitar in a rock band. Upon moving to New York in 1977, he appeared off-Broadway in the hit musical A Bistro Car On The CNR, then played the title role in The Robber Bridegroom at Ford’s Theater in Washington, DC. His Broadway debut was in Cy Coleman’s I Love My Wife which was followed by an off-Broadway production of Oklahoma!. Wopat came to widespread public attention in the late 70s through his role as Luke Duke in television’s The Dukes Of Hazzard. During the seven-season run of this show, Wopat also toured with his band, the North Hollywood All-Stars. In Nashville, he performed contemporary country rock, making his 1983 debut album...
