Biography

This Hispanic rock ‘n’ roll band originated from San Gabriel, California, USA. The members were George Delgado (guitar), Larry Perez (guitar), Phil Ruiz (saxophone), Joe Urzua (saxophone), Frank Zuniga (bass) and Johnny Perez (drums). They had only one hit, ‘Farmer John’, which went to number 19 in the US pop chart in 1964. The song, a remake of a Don And Dewey track, was recorded in a studio but crowd noises were added to give an impression that it was a live recording. On their only album the claim is made that the song and the album were recorded live at the Rhythm Room in Fullerton, California. ‘Annie Oakley’, the band’s follow-up, failed to chart, and for the remainder of the decade the Premiers continued to record local records for the southern California Hispanic constituency.
