The Pipettes

The brainchild of Brighton, England-based promoter and recording artist Monster Bobby (Bobby Barry), this highly entertaining all-girl retro pop group was formed in 2003 by singers Rosay, Riot Becki and Julia (b. Julia Clark-Lowes). Monster Bobby put the singers together with an all-male backing group (dubbed the Cassettes) leaving the girls free to concentrate on vocals and songwriting. The group’s energetic live shows saw the girls replicating the classic girl groups of the 50s and 60s by dressing in matching outfits (polka dot dresses) and stepping their way through a rudimentary dance routine heavy on choreographed hand movements. Gwenno (b.
