Biography

An R&B vocal group from Chicago, Illinois, USA. The Lost Generation bucked the early 70s major trend in sweet falsetto-led vocal groups by providing a fresh sound of a dry, hard lead. The members were Lowrell Simon (lead), his brother Fred Simon, Larry Brownlee (d. 1978; ex-CODs) and Jesse Dean. Lowrell and Dean had previously been members of the Vondells, who had a local Chicago hit in 1964 with ‘Lenore’. The Lost Generation established themselves with the ‘The Sly, Slick, And The Wicked’ (number 14 R&B, number 30 pop) in 1970, and although they were never able to penetrate the national pop charts again, they managed to sustain themselves on R&B hits for the next several years, notably with ‘Wait A Minute’ (number 25 R&B) in 1970, and ‘Talking The Teenage Language’ (number 35 R&B) in 1971.
