Biography

This US folk trio comprised Scott McKenzie (Philip Blondheim, 10 January 1939, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, USA; guitar/vocals), Dick Weissman (b. Richard Weissman; banjo/guitar/vocals), and John Phillips (b. 30 August 1935, Parris Island, South Carolina, USA, d. 18 March 2001, Los Angeles, California, USA; guitar/vocals). The group was formed, like many others at the time, as a result of the folk revival of the late 50s and 60s, and featured strong harmonies and a commercial sound that made folk such a saleable commodity at the time. The Journeymen made their debut in 1961 at Gerde’s Folk City, New York, and shortly afterwards signed to Capitol Records, releasing The Journeymen later the same year. The trio’s popularity, and commerciality, waned after a relatively short life span, and the members went their separate ways.
