Biography

The Glove was essentially a one-off project for UK guitarist/vocalist Robert Smith of the Cure and bass player/multi-instrumentalist Steve Severin of Siouxsie And The Banshees, with singer/dancer Jeanette Landray. Heavily influenced by 60s cult imagery and psychedelia, the Glove (the name taken from the film Yellow Submarine) recorded two singles, ‘Like An Animal’ (a minor hit) and ‘Punish Me With Kisses’, and a distinctive album, Blue Sunshine, issued on the Banshees’ Wonderland label in August 1983. Although the material’s multi-layered sound was endearing, the Glove was plainly a self-indulgent exercise for Severin and Smith (who was also a Banshee at that time), and had an enduring influence on both parties.
