Howard W. Hamilton III, USA. Busy Signals is the recording moniker employed by Hamilton a former art school student and Babes In Toyland roadie. His own recordings, however, reject the indie rock of his ex-employers in favour of contemporary bubblegum and thrift store beats, creating lovely pop about and/or informed by lovely pop. He funded his first release via the sale of his classic 1963 Ford Falcon that raised enough money to buy a sampler and eight-track. The St. Paul, Minnesota-based projects joyous music splices 60s pop, easy listening, dub, hip-hop beats, loops and tapes (including samples appropriated from outtake collections from San Franciscan beat groups and cabaret singers) to produce a jaunty music that echoes Beck, Luscious Jackson and Mercury Rev.
