Biography
Formed in San Francisco, USA, in 1977, the Avengers joined the Dils and Crime as one of the citys prime punk/hardcore attractions. The original line-up featured Penelope Houston (vocals), Greg Westermark (guitar), Johnathan Postal (bass) and Danny Furious (drums), but only Houston and Furious survived the units interminable changes. The groups debut release, Car Crash/We Are The One/I Believe In Me (1977), captured their powerful sound, but also of merit was the subsequent EP, The American In Me (aka White Nigger) (1979), produced by the former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones. Both sets formed the basis of the Avengers sole, posthumous album. Houston later had a solo career, somewhat bizarrely as a singer-songwriter. The Avengers have a small part in history as the band that supported the Sex Pistols on their final gig.
