Carmen Rose Vega, 7 October 1951, Queens, New York, USA. She made her professional musical debut in the New York cast of the tribal-rock musical Hair in 1969. Vega subsequently joined the soul band Pollution, led by singer-songwriter Dobie Gray, before enlisting with Earthquire for their 1973 Earthquire album on Motown Records’ Natural Resources subsidiary. When the group disbanded, Vega was signed to Motown as a solo artist, becoming part of a new generation of young performers whom the label hoped would combat the success of leading disco artists such as Donna Summer. She scored a minor soul hit in 1976 with ‘Full Speed Ahead’, before enjoying more substantial success in the UK with the disco-flavoured Get It Up For Love, and an electronic arrangement of the Diana Ross And The Supremes standard, ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On’.
