A whole crop of melodic alt metal bands sprung up during the early twenty-first century, including the Montgomery, Alabama, USA-based quartet, TRUSTcompany. Formed during the mid-90s by singer/guitarist Kevin Palmer and drummer Jason Singleton, the band was originally called 41 Down. With the addition of bass player Josh Moates, they performed as a trio for a spell, during which time they built up a sizeable regional following. The line-up was completed when second guitarist James Fukai was recruited during early 2000 (by which time their name was already TRUSTcompany). The band had already issued a pair of self-released recordings by this point, which led to a recording contract with Geffen Records shortly afterwards.
