Biography
Celtic harp and vocal duo, pronounced Sheelis, comprises Patsy Seddon (12 January 1961, Edinburgh, Scotland) and Mary Macmaster (b. 22 November 1955, Glasgow, Scotland). The name Sileás is taken from a seventeenth-century Gaelic poet, Sileás Na Ceapaich. Seddon learnt violin and Scottish harp as a child, studied music at school, and achieved an honours degree in Celtic Studies at university. Macmaster also learnt piano, recorder, cello, and guitar whilst young, but spent time busking with the guitar and dulcimer, not taking up the harp until the age of 22. She studied Scottish History and Gaelic at Edinburgh University, receiving an honours MA in 1985. Both were members of the all woman group Sprangeen from 1982-86, but it was in 1985 that the duo started playing professionally together. Sprangeen recorded only one album for Springthyme Records in 1984. After leaving the group Macmaster and Seddon released their debut album, Delighted With Harps....
