Biography
This collaboration between two luminaries of the US hard rock world, Tommy Shaw (ex-Styx) and Jack Blades (ex-Night Ranger), took place during a one year hiatus from their then band, Damn Yankees. Shaw and Blades were keen to explore new material outside of the group format, and set about recording their debut album as Shaw Blades in a country barn. The very basic production of Hallucinations did not diminish the impact of their songwriting, however, with the co-production by Don Gehman (R.E.M. , John Mellencamp) adding lustre to the 11 tracks. However, those looking for a rocking album in keeping with the duos previous traditions were to be disappointed, with the songs located firmly in the classic pop tradition. Shaw and Blades provided practically all of the instrumentation, with a smattering of guests including Steve Smith (ex-Journey) and Damn Yankees colleague Michael Cartellone on drums.
