Biography
27 April 1959, Pompton Plains, New Jersey, USA. Robinsons mother was a piano teacher and other family members also played instruments. Given an alto saxophone at the age of 10, Robinson soon became a proficient multi-instrumentalist. Unusually, he proved adept on both brass and reed instruments. While still attending high school, he was recipient of the National Association of Jazz Educators Louis Armstrong Award and Best Soloist Award. Subsequently, he studied at the Berklee College Of Music, and soon after graduating, in 1981, he was appointed to the college faculty. In the mid-80s Robinson settled in New York where he attracted considerable attention and many favourable notices. He also appeared on numerous club and recording dates.
