This UK comedy-folk trio comprised Clive Harvey (27 November 1945, Watford, Hertfordshire, England; guitar, vocals, ukulele, harmonica), Derek Pearce (b. Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; vocals, multi-instrumentalist), and Mick Hennessey (b. Derby, Derbyshire, England; acoustic and electric bass, vocals). Harvey met Pearce in 1970 at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham, where they played the college folk club and won a local talent contest. This led to folk club gigs in the Derby/Nottingham area. Hennessey joined the line-up soon after. The group took their name from a famous Irish jig. Even though their act was moving away from folk and increasingly towards comedy, the group continued playing folk clubs in and around the midlands. They played the Sidmouth Folk Festival in 1975, which led to concerts and dates on a national scale. The group split in 1985, while still at the height of their popularity.
