Biography
25 October 1905, Evansville, Indiana, USA, d. September 1975, New York City, New York, USA. Reeves played trumpet in various small bands in the area where he was born, but in his later teenage years he moved to New York. Ostensibly, this was to study for a career outside music, but the citys teeming musical life drew him in and he was soon playing in clubs and elsewhere. In 1925 he moved to Chicago to join Erskine Tates popular orchestra and he also played with Dave Peytons band. At this time, he resumed studying, although now it was music. At the start of the 30s he was briefly with Cab Calloway, but was also active in Chicago as leader of his own band. In the late 30s he joined the US National Guard, playing in various bands during the subsequent war years.
