1978, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This Canadian singer and multi-instrumentalist spent four years recording his debut album, writing, arranging, playing and producing all the tracks at his parents' house in his native Winnipeg. Shand grew up listening to classic soul and R&B, and the influence of Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder was evident in the smooth soul pop grooves of his 2002 debut, The Way I Feel. The singer's original demo tape had earned him a recording contract with Universal Music Canada, and he was given free rein to complete the writing and recording of his debut. When the album was completed it was licensed to Motown Records in the US, something of a coup for the young Canadian. The Way I Feel debuted in the US Top 40 in March 2002.
